Sean O'Shay talks about 'discipline' a lot. He compares raising children to training dogs, as if that were normal. I am of the school of consequences for dogs, but with Persistance, Patience, much Love and kindness. I don't believe in Shock collars, unless you have a dog that has serious problems and would be put down because they mauled or harmed another dog or human; a real serious case. But for your average rascally dog, i think it INHUMANE to ever use such a method. How can a dog ever trust when the person who is supposed to love him is hurting him. We may have taken a left turn with our dogs, compared to how humans used to treat them, Chaining them in the yard, not letting them in the house, on furniture and beds etc. But i think all those things are OK if you can make your dog feel safe, secure and they can listen to you when it's important. I give this book the finger. It is often said that dog training is people training and this book, along with volume one, are the textbooks. The information is presented clearly and concisely and in a down to earth manner. Be prepared for some inner-reflection because I guarantee you will find yourself saying "I'm that guy" or "I do that" several times. This is not a how-to book and it will not teach you how to teach your dog tricks but it will help you have the best relationship you've ever had with your dog. That relationship is the foundation for everything we do with our dogs. Dogs crave leadership and they want to see it from you. Give them what they truly need to thrive and succeed and your life with your dog will never be the same. If you have never truly connected with a dog you are in for a life-changing experience and this book will get you there. Cannot recommend this book enough.
